Fresh from the garden…and the forest, is the theme of our new culinary tour to Slovenia. Starting this September, a small group of food and wine enthusiasts will be able to participate in a weeklong tour of one of Europe’s newest hot spots. Slovenia, nestled between Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia, has been getting a lot of attention lately from savvy travelers. With its medieval villages, storybook castles, cosmopolitan cities, and lush green forest, there’s something for everyone.
Slovenia’s rich culinary history has its roots firmly planted in both Italian and Austrian fare. The cooking portion of the tour will focus on organic farm (and forest) to table cuisine with an emphasis on seasonality and sustainability. After a few days in the picturesque capital of Ljubljana, the group will move on to the Krka Valley with its rolling hills, charming villages and farmhouses.
At the Novak Lodge, the group will work with the freshest ingredients available--from the river, the forest and backyard garden. In addition to the cooking classes there will be plenty of time for day trips to nearby towns, castles, and vineyards, before returning to the warm hearth and comfort of the lodge in the evening.
